Manaiakalani Film Festival 2012-School is cool
In Term 2 we were learning a lot about movie magic, and how movies can influence our world. We created many movies. We started by brainstorming key messages we could include in our movies.
We also made a movie that explains how to plant kumara. It was really fun to do. We created this movie to inspire people to learn how to grow their own kumara.
Our movie for The Manaiakalani Film Festival is called 'School Is Cool'. We made it to share all of the cool learning and fun that we have at school.
Our movie was also shown at the Tamaki Primary Academy Awards. We created a PMI about Movie Magic and shared what we liked, what was challenging and interesting.

Weekend Recount
In the weekend I went to starr house and played with her little kittens.After that we went to the park and played cricket with Starr,Savana and Destiny also my sister Teresa.After that we left the park and went home.Starr had to go home because we were going shopping. starr went home and then we left.When we came back we filled our cabbed with lots of food.Later that day we watch a movie we ate lots of food and watch the Benchwarmers it was a cool movie.After that it was nighttime and we watch Peter pan and half of willy wonka After That i fell asleep.The next day we had weetbix for breakfast then we went to my grandpa house for the day we played tiggy and hide and go seek with the next door neighbour after that it was dark time and we had to go home we had pizza for dinner it was delicious then we went asleep.

Positives
What did you like about this term’s unit?
- Using a camera.
- Having the opportunity to edit a movie. Some of us are now confident to edit a movie and are now going to be helping our teacher edit T.P.S News.
- Working as a group to plan our movies.
- This unit helped us build stronger relationships with each other especially when we were working as a group to produce and edit our movies.
- Speeches! - doing and preparing a speech helped developed our presenting skills.
- We have become confident in sharing our ideas without being shy.
- Learning about movie making equipment like the tripod, imove programme, flip cam etc.
- Enjoyed learning about the movie making process - brainstorming, planning, script writing, storyboarding, filming, editing, presenting.
- Learning about the different effective camera shots.
- MAKING A MOVIE!
- Everyone in our class was in a movie.
- Finishing the movie off with a whole school Academy awards. This made us feel very proud of our hardwork! We felt like REAL professional film makers.
- Our whanau and friends being proud of us - they really appreciated our movies.
- We have definitely expanded our knowledge about movie making and have developed good movie making skills that we want to share with others. We look forward to continuing our Movie Magic journey and learning more fun ways to extend our movie making skills.

What challenges did you have with this unit?
- Waiting for our turn to film because there was only one flip-cam and a tripod.
- We had some groups using the same filming location so we had to wait for them to finish filming and sometimes it ment we couldn't film because they were taking too long. For example the staff room, corridor, reading room etc.
- We couldn’t film sometimes as some students were away and the weather was not too good as well.
- Memorising our lines for our scripts.
Interesting
What interested you about this unit?
- The editing process.
- Adding sound effects and music to our movies.
- Learning how professional film makers make movies and trying to develop their skills throughout the process of our film making experience.
- Learning the movie elements helped us to make our movies interesting to watch!
- SolutionHow could we improve on this unit next time.
- More flip-cams and tripods.
- Have the Imovie programme on our netbooks so that we could edit our movies instead of waiting for a group to finish.

How Titanic began
It all began in 1912 ...
There lived a man named Jack he was a rich man.One day Jack decided to go on holiday on the Titanic ship.On the ship he meet a beautiful girl named Rose they were a couple.
That night something was wrong the ship was sailing toward the iceberg .The ship stopped then it started to lean one way everyone aboard was shocked they didn't expect it to happen then it started to sink Rose and Jack were scared because they didn't want to end their relationship because they just meet they were happy to be together Rose and Jack tried to help People aboard but they couldn't .The boat came to rescue the people but some people die as the water rised.
The water come high and the boat tipped Rose and Jack fell off the ship and everyone else
Solution
The water was freezing cold Jack got a wood and told Rose to hope on it while Jack freeze to death and and the people aboard .The boat came to see if there were any survivors the only survivor was Rose she was saved Jack and the people died and the boat sank to the bottom of the water the end.

Animal court
Today I read a play called Animal Court. It is about who is wrong and who is right The Hare thinks he can win a race but the tortoise won. We are practicing our presentation skills as it will help us prepare for our movie making project next week.
The character I play in the story is Ms Fleece. She is a sheep. She has fluffy white wool and has black hooves for her feet. She has long ears and a long nose. I like playing Ms Fleece.

The lost violin
Thursday 8 March.
WALT write a narrative story based on our artwork.
The Lost Violin
Along time ago in a island there lived a handsome boy his name was William and he had a pet called Harmony. They lived in a small village called Jamaica. William was bored so he decided to watch Ben 10 when suddenly a familiar Add came on channel 2 It said, ‘Hi William I am Nathan I have a Job for you. I want you to go in the woods to find the missing violin, ‘.So off they went to search for the lost violin.
When they got there they heard an unusual sound coming out of the ground William quickly dashed to the opposite side of the corner .It started to rain and get gloomy also breezy around them they could hear the wolf howling in a angry voice.The wolves could smell the moist blood and they knew people were there so the pirates sent them to go hunt for them they sniffed and sniffed and found William and Harmony they took him and the pet by their sharp , pointy teeth and took them to the castle they showed the pirate and he looked at them and told him to lock them in the cage.They left without the map because the pirate was so excited he couldn't wait.
They were stuck in the cage utili Harmony reached his tail out of the corner and locked the map around his tail they open the map and inside was a key to unlock the cage and they were finally free.They rushed out of the castle and followed the map.Then they saw the pirate in a frown because he knew he forgot the map he ran back to the castle and realised they escaped this is worst day ever he yelled.They kept on going on until they found the violin.They found the missing violin and rushed home to the t.v they clicked channel 2 and typed in violin he came on the screen again he told them to put it threw the screen but he said no he then thought about it and he did it. It went threw the screen but William thought it was going to smash but it didn't he was surprised and then the adventure was exstapillshed.

All About Me
Hi my name is Maopa. I have black hair and brown smooth skin. I like to go shopping and go on computer. I have 3 brothers and 4 sisters.I like to eat chocolate and ice- cream.My mum is Maori and my dad is Tongan. My friends are Malia, Mehi and Charday. I go to Tamaki Primary school and I am in Room 7. My teacher is Miss Aireen. She is spectacular and Miss Kelly is our teacher aide.
My learning goal for this year is learn different maths strategies to solve challenging maths problems.
I am 9 years old. My brother enjoys reading as well as my sister Lucy. I enjoy looking after my sister Treasa. My brother Matthais gets lots of cool baby things.The best teachers are Miss Kyla and Miss Aireen. Miss Aireen is Samoan miss Kyla is Maori.
When I grow up I want to be a policewomen so I can help people and solve their problems and give them a good life.
At school I play with Lavania and Evelyn because they are kind and friendly.My favourite sport is touch, rugby and also soccer.
My learning goal for this year is learn different maths strategies to solve challenging maths problems.
